As one of the leading biotechnology conferences in Europe, the Swiss Biotech Day is an outstanding networking event that has become an excellent incubator for innovation, research and the advancement of biotechnology. Starting today until 3rd May, the 2022 Swiss Biotech Day expects to bring together more than 850 experts from the life science industry and pioneer biotech start-ups across Europe. Since 2013, the event has drawn entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, analysts, political decision makers and industry stakeholders from across the world.
#SwissBioTech – An outstanding start-up hub for the biotech sector
The collaborative nature of academic organizations, the increase in development funds, and the establishment of big pharma and biotech players have been since the late 1990’s the drivers for the formation of the Swiss biotech start-up landscape. Today, the Swiss biotech sector has become one of the most relevant geographical segments generating a revenue of CHF 4.5 billion in 2021, creating more than 8% additional jobs from 2020 to 2021, and experiencing investment records during the post-pandemic quarters. Additionally, Switzerland continued to lead the first-class patent applications per capita for the tenth year in a row, with the special contribution of the canton of Vaud and Zurich. The medical technology sector positioned itself as the main patent driver – followed by consumer goods, pharma, chemistry, and biotech – contributing once again to Switzerland’s top ranking in the Global Innovation Index.
